We are John and Kate Cassettari, a husband and wife team who met many years ago...After both working in cafes and restaurants (but secretly always hoping we'd open our own), we gave it all up and went travelling around Europe on a shoestring...

We gleamed inspiration from European cafe culture; small bustling eateries serving delicious yet uncomplicated, unpretentious, fresh food and good coffee. We noticed most countries had their version of a 'staple on toast', tartines in France, tostadas in Spain, bruschettas in Italy, francesinha in Portugal, zapiekanka in Poland.. need we go on?!

We particularly fell in love with the leafy decor of Italian formica-laden cafes, and wanted to bring a taste of this to Bristol...and so 'The Toast Room' was born!

We also loved how the cafes we visited were a real part of the community and wanted to build that into The Toast Room, using suppliers that are as local to us as possible, and aiming to support other small independent businesses and community groups, creating a friendly, vibrant addition to East street.
